The overpass bridge in Westport on Beachside Avenue will be closed to traffic from approximately Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 until September, 2021, according to project manager Louis Eveno.

The multi steel girder bridge slated for replacement was built in 1958, and has reportedly deteriorated over time. The bridge will be replaced, Beachside Avenue will be realigned and the right turn lane will be removed from the structure.

The new bridge will utilize GRS-IBS abutments supporting steel girders, approach guide rails will be upgraded to match current safety standards and fencing will be added to the bridge's parapets. In total, the project is estimated to cost $1,486,961.

Drivers can bypass construction by using New Creek Road, and signage will indicate a longer detour that can be used by trucks that will not fit under that road's bridge.
